Bang on a Can founders Julia Wolfe, Micheal Gordon, and David Lang spoke about their latest composition "Shelter" and Jason Treuting of @sopercussion played a percussion solo underneath the glowing lights of the exhibition.

Last weekend marked the two-year anniversary of the opening of MASS MoCA’s Research & Development Store 🥳
Full of newly created companion artworks in collaboration with exhibiting artists at MASS MoCA, contemporary artist editions and books, vinyl, and other unique gift ideas, the R&D Store is an intimate venue in the Northern Berkshires that features engaging author talks and special events. Over the last two years, a visit to the R&D Store has become an unmissable part of a trip to MASS MoCA! Here’s to many more years!

Created by the visionary arts collective TRIBE, under the direction of artistic director and choreographer Shamel Pitts, “Touch of RED” premiered at MASS MoCA in 2022 in collaboration with Jacob’s Pillow — reimagining the boxing ring from a space of duels to one of duets.
Now, from August 6–10, Jacob’s Pillow welcomes Pitts back to the newly reopened Doris Duke Theatre — a powerful return to a space where “Touch of RED” first took shape during a Pillow Lab residency and was cut short in November 2020 when the original Doris Duke Theatre was lost to a fire.

Throughout the next month, the Bang on a Can Summer Fellows and Festival Faculty will be taking to our galleries and helping MASS MoCA do what we do best: inviting audiences to get up close and personal with cutting edge art in all of its forms.

Apologies are on display in Rose Salane’s “Confessions,” on view as part of Like Magic in MASS MoCA’s Building 4. The series brings together images of items that were taken from and then returned to Pompeii, accompanied by notes of apology penned by the takers.
Many of the objects in the series are being returned after decades of possession, such as the ashes in “Confession 2” (pictured) whose note explains that they had been taken by a friend for the writer almost forty years prior. “Confessions” asks a viewer to consider what it means to try to “own” history, how it feels to carry remorse in an object, and who confessions are really for.
